Feelin': hopeful

Hey I'm trying to send out my feelers in hopes of finding other furries in North MS that I can hopefully hang out with, do some fursuit building with, etc. I'll be moving to Oxford MS next week, and so besides the Biology faulcty I don't really know anyone up there.

I wanted to let folks here know about the MAP picnic going on in July
Second Annual MS Anthro Picnic
DATE: Sunday, July 20, 2008
PLACE: Hattiesburg Zoo & Kamper Park at the Pavillion
107 South 17th Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS, 39401 USA
WHEN: From 12:00 PM until sunset
LUNCH: 1:00 PM

To obtain directions to this event, go to Google Maps or MapQuest and type in the intersection "South Park Avenue & Hardy Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39401" rather than the address above. Both are viable and supply ample parking at either locations. However, the intersection search will make it easier to access the parking lot right in front of the Pavillion.

As much as we regret it, we were unable to make this event free. There will be a $5.00 USD minimum donation per person for admission. Please contact Kuron Mareil for payment information; PayPal in advance or cash at the event is preferred (sadly, we are unable to comp anyone's admission at this time). In exchange, you get lots of food, tons of fun, and a custom-made badge. Each attendee can submit a picture for your badge. If not, a MAP! 2008 Mappi badge will be issued. There is limited wireless internet service available under the Pavillion but we would advise leaving most personal electronics behind for this event. We will be outdoors at all times, so there won't be an area to store these expensive items. This PG-rated event is family-orientated and open to all ages. There will be no offensive language, alcohol, tobacco, or any drug-related substances of any kind allowed at this event.

Kamper Park is open to the public with no specific hours of operation; however, it is known that the local police patrol this area after dark for safety's sake. We suggest that you arrive to the picnic early to be able to vist the Zoo and the animals hosted.

The Hattiesburg Zoo hours of operation on Sunday, July 20, 2008 are as follows:

10:00 AM until 4:00 PM - Admission to the Zoo is $2.00

The Train & Carousel runs from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM - Tickets are $1.25

Currently, there are no guests of honor or pre-planned activities, so this means we can all have a relaxed, lazy Sunday afternoon and just enjoy the weather (may sunshine prevail) and each other's company. Any and all are welcome. If anyone wants to bring anything bigger to the event, please let us know and we're sure it'll be a hit.

The menu is as follows (vegan variety will be available):

· Hamburgers & hotdogs with all the fixin's
· Potato salad
· Baked Beans
· Green salad
· Macaroni & cheese
· Potato chips
· Pickles
· Watermelon
· Iced tea and lemonade
· And, of course, cupcakes

Anyone at all who wishes to volunteer in any way, please contact Kuron Mareil as soon as possible. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. If at all possible, please RSVP. Many thanks to you all for your time and consideration. I hope to see each and every one of you there. Until then...

I'd like to attend this to meet up with a lot of my friends from MS/LA but with Gas prices the way they are I'd like to try carpooling with some folks. Fursuits are welcome, so if you live in the North MS, Memphis area and are interested in helping pitch in for gas, I'll be driving my car down probably on Sat, spending the night and then driving back up Sunday. I can help to provide overnight accommodations too for relatively next to nothing too.

If anyone is interested please let me know.

Hey, hey! It's awesome to have you! I think I remember seeing advertisement for a picnic like this before! I'm excited to hear that you'll be coming to Oxford soon. Hopefully that's not too far from Corinth for there to be some get-togethers.

As far as I know though, Hattisburg might be a little out of reach for me at the moment. :(
